After inheriting the dark Van Alen Legacy, Schuyler fled to Florence with her forbidden love, Jack. Now the two of them must embark on the mission Schuyler was destined to complete: to find and protect the five remaining gates that guard the earth from Lucifer, lord of the Silver Bloods.

Back in New York, Mimi has been elected Regent of a crumbling coven. Struggling with her heartache over the loss of Kingsley and with her overwhelming desire to destroy Jack, she must focus all her energy on a perilous new threat. Vampires are being abducted and their captors are planning to burn them alive online. . . for all the world to see. Help arrives in the form of Deming Chen, a Venator from Shanghai, who must untangle the web of deceptions before the killers strike again.

As the young vampires struggle for survival of the coven, they uncover a deadly secret, a truth first discovered by Schuyler’s mother during the Renaissance but kept buried for centuries. And as the Blue Blood enclave weakens yet further, fate leads Schuyler to a terrible choice that will ultimately map the destiny of her heart.

Rating – 4/5 stars

Judge the Cover – If you didn’t know, the silhouettes each stand for the city that the story events focus around on. This cover has the silhouette of Florence, Italy. The angel behind the silhouette is Allegra, who is also known as Tomi during 1452. You will get it why she’s the cover, if you read the book.

Selecting – I have been dying to read this one but once again I had to wait until my library had it available. I spent all my money on other books, that I didn’t have enough to buy the entire series. Anyways, now I can’t wait to get my hands on Lost in Time, the sixth book of the series.

Review – This book picks up where The Van Alen Legacy left off.

After the battle, Schuyler and Jack leave New York and head to the European Coven to get protection from the New York Coven. Jack chose to break his bond with Mimi, and followed his heart. Now the New York Coven not only wants Schuyler, but they also want Jack now. Especially since, Mimi Force is the new Regent, and she wants her revenge on Jack.

Jack and Schuyler think they will get freedom once they are under the Countess protection. It turns the opposite. The Countess has them watched 24/7 by her own Venators. When they try to escape, Schuyler and Jack are almost killed by the Venators. Thankfully, a pirate named Ghedi is there and he helps them escape. But Jack doesn’t trust him, and begins to question Ghedi tactics since he knew a lot more than a human should know. Schuyler trusts him and she finds out why. Ghedi was sent to help them and he believes that he is the Gate Keeper for the Gate of Promise. The only problem is a human can’t be the gatekeeper. When a tragic event leads them to the gate, there is something off about it.

Meanwhile, Mimi Force is angry and heartbroken at the same time. Of course she doesn’t show her emotions to anyone, because she is the newly elected Regent of the New York Coven. Mimi tries to keep herself busy from thinking about getting her revenge on Jack, and her love for Kingsley. When she receives a mysterious email, she can’t help but open it. A video pops up showing a girl tied up and telling them to watch the vampires burn, on the eve of shadow crescent… live. Mimi knows this more than it seems and calls a meeting. She sets up the Conspiracy group to make it like an upcoming movie, and she has Venators to investigate. She also needs help from a Red Blood who she dislikes very much, Oliver Hazard-Perry. After a failed attempt, she calls help from another experienced Venator, Deming Chen.

This brings a new character into light, Deming Chen’s point of view. I am not going to go into detail about what happens with her because it will give everything away. She does get a lot of loose ends that led her nowhere and everywhere.

This one was really exciting, fast read, considering the fact that I read it in like 5 hours. I like the new point of view Deming Chen, she wasn’t like the other characters. Although, I can’t wait to read more about Bliss in Wolf Pact, I kind of miss her.

Best Character –Deming Chen is my new favorite character of the series. A fresh new face pulled out from the others. I love her point of view and doing the case with her.

Worst Character – Ghedi, there was so many things him and the others like him that seemed evil.

Favorite Part – When Deming put the pieces together and discovers who is responsible, I was like “I knew it” from the very beginning of her part.

Author’s NEWS – Another announcement for Blue Blood fans, Melissa says there is going to be another series that will be set in the Blue Bloods world. But before that though, the seventh and final book of the Blue Blood series will come out. If there’s any more news, I will let you know. Right now, I am getting out of the vampire world and reading some other things.
